Egg Vitrification: The Procedure and Cost
The fertility preservation or freezing process is short, not taking longer than two weeks and has no known side effects that put your health at risk.
The treatment usually involves two visits to our clinic.
First visit to Eugin
The first appointment will take two hours to carry out the necessary medical tests. Your doctor will answer all of the questions that you may have and will explain in detail the different steps and precise instructions for starting the treatment.
10 to 12 days at home
Between the first and second visit you will not need to travel to our clinic. You can have the tests that your doctor asks you for carried out in the centre of your choice.
The second appointment takes place 10-15 days after ovulation is stimulated. It is at this time when follicular aspiration is carried out, from which the eggs are obtained from the ovaries. At birth, every woman has an ovarian reserve of about 400,000 eggs. Our objective is to obtain at least nine eggs; an insignificant number with respect to the total.
Follicular aspiration is a simple procedure that only involves the discomfort commonly caused by any sedation. There is no need to worry; you will be perfectly attended to at all times. Once the aspiration has been carried out, we proceed to the vitrification and cryoconservation of the eggs.
In total, the second visit will also take about two hours and when you leave the clinic you will be able to lead a practically normal life.
How much does it cost?
The treatment costs 2.420,00 EUR and includes the cryoconservation of your eggs for four years. This price does not include the cost of the medication necessary to stimulate your ovaries or the additional medical tests required. On the day of your first appointment the doctor will give you your personalized stimulation guidelines.
From the fifth year, the maintenance costs are €250 per year. The big advantage of EUGIN is that you can finance the treatment.
Slight abdominal discomfort
The discomfort that the treatment may cause is usually very slight and is characterized by a minor swelling in the abdominal region. It is possible that you may feel this discomfort in the abdomen for a few days due to the higher level of activity that your ovaries have been subjected to. It shouldn’t affect your daily life and will disappear once the treatment is finished.
Egg vitrification: the technique
Vitrification is the technique which preserves a determinate number of a woman’s mature eggs. We use the ultra-rapid freezing method, which keeps these cells in an unaltered state over an indefinite period of time.
