Parents are increasingly aware of the pressure on their daughters to avoid motherhood and decide to help them by suggesting egg freezing.
More and more parents, seeing their daughters worried about the pressure of the biological clock and the social coercion of experiencing motherhood first hand, decide to help them by recommending egg freezing. This technique of preserving fertility presents itself as a powerful alternative for those women who either for social, or work reasons, cannot find the time to become mothers.
This is the case of Marta, a 35-year-old woman who does not currently have a steady partner. Marta is completely involved in her work, as well as her trips and outings with friends: she believes that now is not the time to get pregnant.
“You should think about freezing your eggs because maybe when you find the right person, it will be too late,” maintains Marta’s mother. For her part, the young woman admits that the phrase “too late” is starting to really worry her and says she is seriously considering turning to egg freezing.
Similar situations to this are reported in an article in The New York Times. “I felt the clock was ticking away, it was like tick tock, tick tock,” says Candace Kramer, 61, and mother of Allison, 25. Candace suggested to her daughter that she freeze her eggs and offered to pay half the cost of treatment. “I saw it as an opportunity for her,” Candace says.
Individual cases aside, the fact is that more and more mothers are unreservedly advising their daughters about this possibility in order to take the pressure off them. “There’s a fine line between concern and pressure on this issue,” says Rachel Lehmann-Haupt, author of In Her Own Sweet Time: Unexpected Adventures in Finding Love, Commitment and Motherhood, in which she describes the conversations on fertility between parents and daughters.
Younger and younger
It seems clear that egg freezing is booming in all developed societies. Initially, the women who were interested in Timefreeze that used to come to Eugin Clinic were around the age of 40. However, nowadays the age is declining gradually and they are increasingly younger. The ideal would be for women to become aware about freezing their eggs at the age of 30 in order to become mothers at 40 without problems.
