Ana explains to us her experience of the ovarian stimulation process she is undergoing to freeze her eggs.
Ana is 35 years old and, as of six months ago, she does not have a stable partner. After careful consideration, she has finally decided to start the egg freezing treatment. She arrived at Clinica Eugin on the 17th of September last year to ask for information. Two days later she came for her first appointment. After the medical tests and required administrative procedures, she started the treatment with the ovarian stimulation. She tells us her story herself.
When I arrived at the clinic for my first appointment, all the stages of the treatment were explained to me, starting with the ovarian stimulation. The stimulation consists of the application of daily injections that you can administer yourself from the second day of your period. It is quite simple and on my first visit I was given a pen drive with the instructions on how to administer the medication myself at home.
Process 8 to 14 days long
I administer the injections myself every day at the same time, at 21:30. The doctors at the clinic told me that it is best to inject myself between nine and eleven every night. Thanks to this medication, several of my eggs will start to mature simultaneously. This is a process that usually lasts for between 8 and 14 days.
Five days after my first injection, on the 1st of October, my first follicle monitoring tests were scheduled: a medical check-up carried out by means of a transvaginal ultrasound scan – the same as all gynaecological check-ups – and a blood test to check on the maturing process of the eggs. In my case, everything was in order.
I have had three check-ups at the clinic (at times that fit in with my work) where they have checked that everything is going according to plan. As was expected, my body has responded well to the medication and I now have a date for my last injection and the follicular puncture: in a ten-minute operation, my eggs will be extracted ready for freezing.
I have been told that after the puncture I must relax for the rest of that day. And if everything goes according to plan, I will have my next period between 5 to 14 days after the puncture. It is a short process: everything goes back to normal and I can try to become a mother when the right moment arises.
